The Violet Township Women's League is a not-for-profit, charitable, and social organization formed to bring women from the Pickerington, Violet Township, and surrounding communities together in friendship and service. Our members come from all ages and stages of life yet all share an interest in supporting the community in which we live. The Violet Township Women's League offers a variety of activities and events that promote the fundamentals of friendship and community service the Club was founded upon. Established in July 1999, VTWL is an outgrowth from what was The Welcome Wagon Club of Violet Township. When Welcome Wagon International disbanded all nationally affiliated clubs, the members of the Violet Township group formed a women's club that would meet the social needs of its members while focusing on service to the community.
We believe that the strong bonds of good friendships are built through interaction with others who share similar interests. Members of The Violet Township Women's League get to know each other through the social activities and events sponsored by the Club. Participation in a variety of interest groups is open and available to all members. There are groups that meet for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Others meet to play cards, see movies, do needlework, discuss books, or take a day trip somewhere fun.
Leadership
The Club is managed by a Board of Directors. The Executive Board is made up of five elected officers: President, 1st VP (Programs), 2nd VP (Membership), Secretary, and Treasurer. The balance of the board consists of committee chairs who volunteer their time and energy to the Club for a year-long term. A new board is installed at the May meeting each year. All members are eligible to serve on the board regardless of previous experience or amount of time in the Club. In fact, new faces and fresh perspectives help keep the Club moving forward!
Community Service
Community Service is the driving force behind The Violet Township Women's League. The Violet Township Women's League Community Service Scholarship Fund was established in 2000 to reward the hard work and dedication of a local college bound student. The Scholarship Fund was started as a way to provide a consistent outlet for the Club's fundraising efforts and to assist the Club in developing an identity within the Pickerington community. The fund started out small with the proceeds from the first VTWL Style Show & Luncheon but, thanks to the hard work of the VTWL members and the loyal support of the Pickerington community, it has grown to the point where in Spring 2008 VTWL was, for the first time, able to award two scholarships.
In addition to the Scholarship Fund, The Violet Township Women's League also supports a number of local charities, causes, and service projects throughout the year:
- Voluntary donations are collected at each monthly meeting to benefit a designated charity or cause.
- The Club works with Fairfield County Department of Jobs & Family Services to 'adopt' one or more families and provide them with gifts and food each holiday season.
- The VTWL makes end-of-the year donations to several local charities and causes as voted upon by the membership.
- When an unexpected situation arises, VTWL offers support as needed. Any member can present a need to the group and/or request Club assistance.
